Pakistan's cotton production is expected to record 14.5 million bales

The increasing number of cotton arrivals in Pakistan indicates that this year's cotton production may hit a record high of 14.5 million bales, surpassing the 14.375 million bales set in 2004-05.

As of January 15, 2012, the Pakistan Cotton Gunning Association reported that the arrival of seed cotton totaled 128.29 million bales, compared with 10.76 million bales in the same period last year, an increase of 19.23%.

This year, Punjab province's arrival of seed cotton increased by 44.44% to 10.312 million bales, and the arrival of goods in Sindh decreased by 30.48% to 2.571 million bales.

Undeniably, this year's heavy rain and devastating floods destroyed about 2.5 million bales of cotton. If the cotton is not destroyed, this year's cotton production will hit a record high of 1.65 to 17 million bales. Pakistan will become a real one after many years. Cotton surplus countries, at present, Pakistan's domestic cotton consumption of about 1350-14 million bags.
