Zero-duty-year-old Wenzhou shoe export ASEAN surged

China-ASEAN Free Trade Area entered the era of "zero tariff" and it is already at the age of one year. During this year, the warm trade volume of ASEAN increased greatly. According to the statistics of Wenzhou Customs, the total import and export volume between Wenzhou and ASEAN reached US$1.16 billion in 2010, a year-on-year increase of 23.63%. ASEAN replaced Russia as the third largest trading partner in Wenzhou.

In the slow recovery of European and American markets, trade barriers and other factors, warm enterprises have entered the emerging markets, after the launch of the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area, Wenzhou products into the ASEAN market ushered in an unprecedented opportunity. The Wenzhou enterprises are more aggressive in their efforts to expand the market by using ASEAN marketing points as "bridgeheads." The responsible person of the Wenzhou Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation Bureau stated that the price of Wenzhou light industrial products is relatively low and the quality is guaranteed, which is more easily accepted by the ASEAN market.

Chen Yuanwei, the vice president of the Saina Group, said that the total amount of safety shoes exported to ASEAN has increased by more than 30% year-on-year. After zero tariffs are realized, the cost of shoes entering the ASEAN market is greatly reduced. The focus of developing an emerging market is to find an accurate market position. Wenzhou Rongguang Group and the Saina Group have been increasing their exports to ASEAN in recent years.

At the same time, the growth of imports from ASEAN in 2010 was particularly significant. The value of imports of goods throughout the year amounted to USD 217 million, a year-on-year increase of 33.1%. This increase was 24.2 percentage points higher than the value of imports of goods in Wenzhou. The top three imported products are nickel ore, natural rubber, and acyclic alcohol. The taxation of these three commodities in 2010 was US$114 million, an increase of 44.4% year-on-year.

Wenzhou Customs actively optimises regulatory services, implements preferential tariff policies for China-ASEAN Free Trade Area, strengthens enterprises' assistance, and guides enterprises with import and export businesses with ASEAN countries to grasp relevant policy requirements such as tariff preferences and application of books. Make full use of preferential policies. According to the person in charge of a leather chemicals company in Ouhai, Wenzhou City, in 2010, nearly 1,500 tons of leather chemicals were used in their production, all of which were imported from Singapore and fully enjoyed the zero-tariff preferential policy of the ASEAN Free Trade Area.
