India plans to open up new markets for textile exports

According to India’s report, Rita Menon, secretary of the Ministry of Textiles, stated that India will work hard to open up new markets for textile exports in Eastern Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, Australia, New Zealand and Japan.

According to preliminary statistics from the Ministry of Commerce of India, textile exports increased by 15% to US$ 21.02 billion in fiscal year 2010-11. India’s Ministry of Commerce plans to increase its textile exports to 42 billion U.S. dollars in the 2013-14 fiscal year.

On the issue of Cotton exports, Rita Menon, secretary of the Ministry of Textiles, once again stressed that the government should maintain the export quota for the 2010-2011 cotton season at 5.5 million bales to ensure the safety of raw materials in the domestic textile industry.
